A conversation with a work colleague who was struggling with their mental health, together with a discussion about the positive impact of sport and wellbeing, sparked an idea that soon became a reality – a two-hour pickleball extravaganza!
On Friday 4th September, work colleagues from Lockheed Martin joined us at the club for a two-hour pickleball experience. For most of the group, this was their first introduction to racket sports, so there were understandably a few nerves at the start.
The first hour was dedicated to coaching, technique, and learning the basics with Coach James Lewis. The second hour saw the group put their new skills into practice with a fun doubles tournament.
Those initial nerves soon disappeared thanks to James’s professionalism, combined with the encouragement and support of our more seasoned players. Before long, everyone was relaxing, laughing, and most importantly having fun!
Quotes from the Court
“I really enjoyed it and think I’ll definitely play again.”
“Considering sport and I do not mix well, I had a great time and was surprised that I really enjoyed it!”
“So much fun! When can we do it again?”
And then, a day later…
“When does the aching stop?” 😂
These comments demonstrate how introducing sport and physical activity into the workplace can have a positive impact on team wellbeing – while also providing an opportunity to step away from the usual work environment, connect with colleagues, and simply have some fun.
A huge thank you to James Lewis for his organisation, professionalism and enthusiasm in making this such a memorable and enjoyable morning. And, of course, a big thank you to Fiona for the superb buffet
