A fantastic afternoon of friendly competition, memorable rallies, and community spirit as Seacourt members came together to celebrate the life of a much-loved member.
It was a busy Saturday on the lawn tennis courts at Seacourt as players gathered for the annual Helen’s Cup Fun Doubles Tournament. Bringing together members of all abilities, the event was a wonderful celebration of tennis, friendship and the life of a very special member of the Seacourt community, Helen Phipps-Wiltshire.
With a packed schedule of matches, plenty of laughter and some fantastic tennis on display, the tournament was a great reminder of what makes Seacourt such a special place to play sport. The day wasn’t simply about winning. It was about bringing people together, enjoying the game and remembering someone who shared that same passion for lawn tennis.
Remembering a Much-Loved Seacourt Member
The Helen’s Cup is held each year in loving memory of Helen Phipps-Wiltshire, a much-loved Seacourt member who enjoyed spending time on the lawn tennis courts and being part of the club’s friendly sporting community.
Organised by Head Coach James Green, the annual tournament is a fitting tribute to Helen, combining her love of tennis with the friendships and connections that make club life so rewarding.
It was particularly lovely to welcome Helen’s wife, Kate, and family to the event, joining players and supporters for an afternoon of tennis and remembrance.
For those who knew Helen, the tournament offered an opportunity to share memories, reconnect with friends and celebrate her life through a sport she enjoyed so much. For newer members, it was a chance to experience the welcoming atmosphere and sense of community that sits at the heart of Seacourt.
Events such as the Helen’s Cup are an important part of the club’s calendar, bringing members together for much more than a game of tennis.
A Fantastic Afternoon of Fun Doubles Tennis
With players ranging from intermediate level through to some of Seacourt’s most experienced lawn tennis competitors, the tournament promised an exciting afternoon of matches.
The fun doubles format created a brilliant atmosphere on court, with players enjoying the opportunity to test their skills, develop their game and compete alongside fellow members.
There were plenty of entertaining rallies, impressive shots and moments of friendly rivalry throughout the afternoon. Although everyone was keen to play their best tennis, the emphasis remained firmly on having fun and enjoying the occasion.
One of the great things about social tennis competitions at Seacourt is the opportunity to play with and against people of different abilities. More experienced players can share their knowledge, while developing players gain valuable match experience and confidence.
The Helen’s Cup captured this spirit brilliantly, with plenty of encouragement and good humour throughout the tournament.
Celebrating the Helen’s Cup Winners
As the afternoon progressed, the competition gathered momentum, with some exciting matches leading into the closing stages of the tournament.
An entertaining semi-final added to the excitement, with players putting their skills to the test and supporters enjoying the action from the sidelines.
Congratulations to Zack and Amanda, who secured first place in the 2026 Helen’s Cup Fun Doubles Tournament after a fantastic afternoon of tennis.
Kate and Rob followed closely behind, taking a well-deserved second place.
Of course, with an event focused on fun and friendship, it wasn’t just the tennis results that deserved recognition.
A special mention also goes to Gary, who received the Most Fun Player Award, recognising the enthusiasm and good spirit that made the afternoon such a success.
Well done to all the winners and everyone who took part. The friendly atmosphere and enthusiasm of the players made this year’s tournament another memorable occasion.
A Special Afternoon in Helen’s Memory
One of the most meaningful parts of the day was seeing so many people come together to remember Helen.
Kate shared some lovely words following the event, perfectly capturing the spirit of the afternoon:
“An absolutely brilliant afternoon, playing for Helen’s Cup, my favourite game, great tennis, lots of fun and in memory of a very special person. Thank you to James for organising, Kate and her family, and to everyone who took part to remember a fellow Seacourt lady.”
These words reflect exactly what the Helen’s Cup represents. While the tennis provides plenty of excitement, it is the friendships, shared memories and community spirit that make the occasion so meaningful.
A huge thank you goes to James Green for organising the tournament and bringing everyone together for such a special day.
Exhibition Tennis, Music and Great Food
The entertainment didn’t stop when the Helen’s Cup tournament finished!
Players and spectators were treated to an exciting James versus James exhibition match, alongside some other professional players, providing another opportunity to enjoy some fantastic tennis.
With impressive rallies and plenty of skill on display, the exhibition was a brilliant addition to the afternoon’s programme and a great way to round off the sporting action.
As the evening continued, attention turned from the tennis courts to the social side of Seacourt.
AJ Sax provided the evening’s entertainment with a fantastic selection of tracks, creating a lively atmosphere for members and guests to relax and enjoy themselves.
Meanwhile, The Kitchen at Seacourt served up some delicious dishes, giving everyone the chance to enjoy great food, catch up with friends and reflect on the day’s highlights.
It was a wonderful combination of sport, entertainment and socialising, showcasing everything that makes events at Seacourt so enjoyable.
More Than Just a Game of Tennis
At Seacourt, lawn tennis is about much more than what happens on the court.
Friendly competitions such as the Helen’s Cup give members the chance to meet new players, improve their technique, build confidence and enjoy a little healthy competition in a welcoming environment.
They also provide a fantastic opportunity to become more involved in club life, make new friendships and enjoy the social side of sport.
With players of varying abilities taking part, these events demonstrate that you don’t have to be an elite competitor to enjoy tournament tennis.
Seacourt offers a friendly and supportive environment for players to develop their skills, enjoy regular matches and become part of an active sporting community.
If you’re interested in playing more lawn tennis, taking part in friendly competitions or simply meeting others who share your enthusiasm for the game, there’s plenty to get involved with at Seacourt.
