The Brodie Cup Seacourt v Petworth

Seacourt played Petworth in the preliminary round of the Brodie Cup on 15th Oct at Seacourt. New to the team, Mark Vinall started the tie in the 50 singles. Despite playing well, he ultimately lost to a more experienced opponent. Graham Law and Matt Boulton were up next but lost out to a well-drilled Petworth partnership. 2 – 0 down it was looking bleak for Seacourt. However, up stepped Nick Jones who put in a masterful display of Real Tennis to overwhelm his opponent.

With hopes high of a comeback, Simon Flynn was up next. Unfortunately, his opponent’s left-handed serve beguiled Simon and hopes of any comeback were dashed. Playing for pride, Mark Gillespie and Chris Moor were last on. In what turned out to be an entertaining encounter, they lost in 3 close sets handing Petworth a 4 – 1 victory. Thanks to the Seacourt faithful who came to support, Drew who marked the matches, and good luck to Petworth in the next round.
