The Emsworth Bowl 2024

Over the weekend of Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th of May Seacourt held the Emsworth Bowl which is the category 50+ handicap tournament.
There were 8 players fighting for the top 2 places in two groups of 4. There were some very close matches. Colin Jones and Matt Simpson made it through from Group 1. Graham Law and Alex Boulton came through from Group 2.

The first semi-final was between Matt Simpson & Graham Law, some great tennis throughout, with Matt winning 6/2. Next, Alex Boulton took on Colin Jones, they both played well but Alex took the match 6/1.

The Dedans was full for the final, to see Alex & Matt play the first to 8 games.
Alex started under pressure as Matt raced around the court, chasing every ball down. The first game took over 10 minutes and saw Matt take this one. Alex quickly took the second game to even things up to 1/1. The match continued this way, going to 4/4, with both players pushing the ball hard around the court. It was a very good level of tennis with Alex taking the crown, 8/5!
What a match, well played both.

Thanks go to the late Terry Brewer and the late Colin Smith, who were great characters at Seacourt not too long ago. Without their support we wouldn’t have the Emsworth trophies, this particular one being the Emsworth Bowl. We are forever indebted to you.

Thank you to the great man himself, Alf Fleming for a magnificent speech on the history of these tournaments and for his kind words to both the players in his presentation.
