Seacourt v Petworth 9th April Real Tennis

Seacourt hosted Petworth in our annual club fixture on Sunday, March 9th.

First up for Seacourt were Caroline Macdowell and Colin Jones, who faced Stuart Richie and Andrew Bourcier. Despite starting with a half 15 disadvantage, they struggled to find their rhythm and lost the match 6-2, 6-3.

Next, it was the Chairman, Nick Atkins’ turn to shine as he played against Richard Stables. Stables took the first set 6-3, but Nick settled in and won the second set 6-2. In a tense final set, Nick dug deep and clinched the match 6-5. Nick then teamed up with Vince Dobbin for the next match against Simon Gray and Jane Taylor. They got off to a fantastic start, winning the first set 6-0, but lost focus in the second set and dropped it 6-4. However, they regrouped and won the final set 6-3.

Club Manager Jon Cobon and Alex Boulton faced Simon Armstrong and Richard Stables, starting with a half 15 disadvantage. They proved too strong for the Petworth duo, winning convincingly 6-2, 6-2. With a 3-1 lead, Simon De Halpert and John Ward took to the court against Chris Swan and Stuart Allison. After Petworth won the first set 6-1, Seacourt bounced back to take the next two sets 6-4 and 6-3.

The final match showcased Alex Boulton, who proved his status as the club’s top junior by defeating Stuart Allison from Petworth 6-0, 6-0 in just 25 minutes.

Well done, Alex! Great victory for Seacourt!

A special thanks to Vince at Wynyards for providing a lovely roast dinner for everyone – I truly appreciated the silence afterward. Proof of a good lunch!

Best,  Drew
