On Sunday, April 6th, Seacourt hosted the infamous Emsworth Bowl, featuring the 50-plus handicap category. Eight players were divided into two groups of four, competing for the coveted bowl!
In the first group, Matt Simpson dominated by winning all his matches, with Simon Armstrong coming in a close second, both securing their spots in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, Matt had to withdraw due to another commitment, which allowed Nick Atkins to re-enter the tournament.
In the second group, Jon Cobon secured his place in the semi-finals alongside Jack Morgan.
The first semi-final saw Jack face off against Simon in a fantastic showdown that reached a thrilling 4-all. In the end, Simon emerged victorious with a score of 6-4.
In the second semi-final, Jon faced Nick. The match started competitively, but Jon quickly took control, winning decisively with a score of 6-2.
The final matchup featured Jon against Simon, played to the first to 8 games in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Simon showcased his experience, but he was challenged by Jon’s speed and agility, who chased down every shot and maintained a consistent game. Ultimately, Jon Cobon, the Club Manager, claimed the title of Emsworth Bowl Champion 2025, winning the final with a score of 8-1.
Congratulations to Jon Cobon! A big congratulations also to all players who participated, especially our junior contingent: Daniel Morgan, Jack Morgan, and Ryan Wallace.
Thank you to Peter Dawes for watching the matches alongside Viv, and for leading the prize-giving ceremony, reminding us all how this tournament came to fruition.
We look forward to next year!
