I’m pleased to report a good 3-0 vets win against Totton in our first match of the season. Vince Dobbin was up first and got off to a strong start going 6-0 up in the first game before his younger opponent caught up. It went to 14 all but Vince managed to close it out 16-14.
He won the second game convincingly but went to sleep in the third losing it 13-15. His opponent was awkward often looking for points rather than playing the ball which frustrated and annoyed Vince. He came out firing in the fourth hitting great length and closing out the match.
Bruce Levy was on next and after finding his length in the first game closed it out and then won the second easily. He went to sleep in the third going 10-14 down but then managed to finish off the game and match 18-16.
Nick Atkins was up next against an opponent with a great touch and the first two games were nick and tuck but went Nick’s way and he managed to close it out for a 3-0 win. An enjoyable evening of pizza, beer, and a discussion on vets health issues followed. Overall a very satisfactory start to the evening.
