This past weekend saw the annual Bedford Cup ‘fun doubles’ competition take place at Seacourt. Players of all abilities took to the lawn tennis courts to compete in this popular mixed event.
The weather was kind and some fantastic tennis was played in a relaxed and informal environment. The Bedford Cup takes place every April and invites players of mixed abilities to enter.
The format involves playing four short matches, across the morning and afternoon. Big congratulations to this year’s winners, Vinnie and Sue who managed to take the lead from runners-up, Maria and Toby. A nail-biting final took place with a close score of 3-2 games.
Following the team play, Peter Wilson, provided a delicious BBQ for players to enjoy. This year’s Bedford Cup proved to be another successful event for all who attended.
Joanna Young, a recent new member commented “As a new lawn tennis player, I was a little nervous about entering a competition. However, I enjoyed meeting some new members and benefited from playing alongside more experienced players. I learnt a lot today and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. A chance to see how my coaching sessions were progressing as well as challenge my game.”
A big thank you to Caroline and Rich for organising the event and to Pete for providing hot dogs, burgers and salad. Across the year, Seacourt runs various competitions to help members realise their full potential. Some are more serious for more advanced players while others, offer the opportunity to have a bit of fun.
