THE DOUGIE SHARP CUP

SINGLES HANDICAP TOURNAMENT FOR AGES 50 AND ABOVE
Date: December 9th & 10th

We are pleased to announce that this year’s Dougie Sharp Cup, which is a singles tournament for players above the age of 50 and played off handicap, had the biggest entry ever with 17 players competing. The tournament was structured into three groups of six matches played on Saturday and one group on Sunday, before reaching the quarterfinal stages on Sunday afternoon. There were some very tight matches throughout the group stages. The semi-finals were between Patrick Lewis and Vince Dobbin, with Patrick winning 6/4 and Mark Vinall and Graham Law, with Graham winning 6/2. Graham Law, a past 4-time winner, showed his experience in the tournament.

The final was between Patrick and Graham. Patrick had to give Graham a substantial handicap. Graham won the first two games before Patrick leveled up at 2 all. Both players shared games up to 6 all, with Graham going ahead 7/6. The next game went to 40 all, and there followed a long rally, which Graham won 8/6, securing his fifth title, an incredible feat!

We would like to congratulate Graham on his impressive achievement. We would also like to extend our gratitude to everyone who participated and helped make the tournament a success. Finally, we would like to thank Amanda Sharp for continuously supporting her father’s tournament and supplying everyone with a glass of wine to celebrate afterwards.
